A Familiy Affair...

Either the secret lies in the genetic structures... Or it is a result of upbringing. Or it is just a freak of nature. However, Svenja Chudoba has created her first board!

Svenja Chudoba had been a guest to Lorch at the Lake of Constance, where she had the privilege to manufacture a board according to her own ideas. In this branch, it takes more than just a quick drawing and a command to the staff. Do it yourself! Take a deep breath of chemistry and then: grinding, grinding, grinding... Look and see!

Impressions from the End of the Season 2009

Life is a Beach...

«Fernweh» with Thomas Chudoba

Swiss Television (SF) has a special broadcast called «Fernweh», a travelling magazine. Labelled "Fernweh – In den Alpen: von Monaco nach Maribor" there will be a special set of broadcasts, starting on 6 July, ending on 17 August 2009. And they procuded with Thomas Chudoba at Lake Maggiore in Cannobio. The second episode on 13 July 2009 with Sonja Hasler, had those scenes with a surf legend...

TSS has created a little tool to provide access to the internet versions of all episodes. Sorry, only in German... Or should we say... Swiss German, shouldn't we?

SpecialNight@Dannemann – Happy Birthday Brigitte!

Big birthday party at the ultimative Cigar Night in Brissago! At the Centro DANNEMANN on 29 April, the celebration of Brigitte's birthday literally made the walls shake. Brigitte is a hotel business authority, taking care of the guests at the Hotel Eden Roc in Ascona. Eden Roc...? Yes, just a year ago, a well-known football team stayed at the Eden Roc for a couple of days...

Happy birthday and many happy returns from everone at TSS to a congenial and simpatico team boss!

Same Procedure As Last Year... – Spring Cleaning with Floodwaters

Lake Maggiore joined spring cleaning at TOMASO SAIL & SURF's water sports center in Cannobio with fresh floodwaters... Three days of heavy rain cleaned nature along the coast line of Lake Maggiore and and flushed the Lido and TSS into the season of 2009. Yes, we can... Again... Please have a look.

CIGAR NIGHT at the Centro DANNEMANN

What do Thomas Chudoba and Arnold Schwarzenegger have in common...? Okay, a tough question... – and there is more than just one answer...   It is rather simple... – both have received a cigar from the same authority. No, no..., really... – not in Clinton-like way.

Every Wednesday from April until November, the Centro DANNEMANN in Brissago at the Swiss bank of Lake Maggiore is celebrating a CIGAR NIGHT with brasilian delicacies and south-american rhythm, starting at 6 p.m.. During those evenings, you can watch a Torcedora rolling fine cigars &ndash and burn the results of her work. Lucia has rolled for both, for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Thomas Chudoba.

Starting the Season of 2009: Happy Easter!!!

Happy Easter to all friends, customers, guests and partners of TOMASO SAIL & SURF – and a nest full of colorful eggs...!

Here we go again...! TOMASO SAIL & SURF is declaring the season of 2009 open. The water sports center at the Lido in Cannobio is back in action. During the pre-season, we are open from 11.30 a.m. until 7.00 p.m.; courses will start at 10.00 a.m.

TSS starts with a gift for you: during pre-season all prices are the same as last season! All price lists are still valid – except the list of second hand boats.

We beg your pardon, along with the sunshine, there's gotta be a little rain sometimes... – in the early season. In case of bad weather conditions, Thomas Chudoba and his team will focus on transportation, boat repair and other workshop tasks. When the center is closed due to bas weather, please call +39.333.7000291 to arrange your day(s) on Lake Maggiore.

A Duel of Generations

«TOMASO SAIL & SURF first to react on Ferrari Crisis...», «Thomas Chudoba sen. starts Junior Programme for Motor Sports...», just two of the possible newspaper headlines...

Moreover, it is a fact that there is a two-storeyed kart speedway near Lovere. While on the way back from snowboarding on Monte Campione, they could not resist... Thomas Chudoba sen. and Thomas Chudoba jr. started their duel of generations. They had no balaclavas for guest drivers at the speedway, so Thomas and Thomas had to wear these stylish "sanitary caps" under their helmets. The album about the kart duel also contains motion pictures!

New Year's Eve 2008 with "Captain Alex"

2009 starts with part two of the Chudoba home story, although the story does not take place "at home". Thomas Chudoba and his family visited Alexander Nist and his better half in Monte Carlo to celebrate New Year's Eve and 2009. This little photo album (part 1) and this one (part 2) contains some impressions of this trip.

Even if the weather conditions are not so 100% Monaco-like, you can do a lot in Monte Carlo without getting wet. Monaco is crisscrossed by a system of passages, tunnels and elevators. So follow now Thomas Chudoba and his family strolling through the streets of Monte Carlo: to the marina, to the Christmas market, to the oceanic museum, to the car collection of Prince Albert 2 and, of course, to the "Place du Casino" at the Monte-Carlo Casino...

Operation «Atlantis» – Part 3...

We stopped counting... It happens for the third time – or something like that... It's flash flood number three or four in 2008.

Thomas Chudoba is currently fighting his desolate and abandoned fight against the elements – ...against the cold and dark floods of Lake Maggiore. It is raining cats and dogs and little elephants. Okay, it had been raining before, but never before the aftermath was so utterly devastating.

Autumn Winds...

Slowly, step by step autumn is coming to the southward side of the Alps, summer will end soon. This does not mean that cold winds are blowing accross Lake Maggiore and that it is raining cats and dogs – there is just a change in temperature. It is no longer as warm as it was in midsummer. And sometimes there is an additional fresh breeze, somehow attractive for windsurfers and kite surfers, as you can see in this album.

Tour de Monte-Carlo...

Most of our readers know that Thomas Chudoba relishes the Principauté de Monaco resp. de Monte Carlo. Not because of the tax system or because of the gambling casino – Alexander Nist aka «Alessandro» aka «Alex», a TSS baseleader for many years on Bolifushi and at Lake Maggiore, now lives in Monaco. In addition, he is a nephew to Thomas Chudoba. Now try to figure out, how Alexander is related to Svenja... If you answer is correct, you are qualified to help Thomas in late November winterising the water sports center...

On the occasion of Svenja's 18th birthday, Thomas Chudoba took a little motor bike trip with his baby girl to Monte Carlo, as you can see here.

What happened in October 1990...?

What happened in October 1990? Okay, there was some reunification in Germany, 3.10.1990... What else...? Wolfgang Schäuble was injured at an assassination attempt. Yes, correct... But not so negative. What else...? Leonard Bernstein died. Correct. I said: not so negative... What else...? In Bordeaux, one of the finest vintage... Okay, the plan is dismissed...

In October 1990, Svenja Chudoba was born! No, not that catamaran... – but all TOMCATs of type «Svenja» are named after her. And she is Thomas Chudoba's daughter. Now, in October 2008, Svenja Chudoba is celebrating her 18th birthday: Happy birthday!!!

September Floods...

Good news first: the water sports center of Tomaso Sail & Surf is operating normally, without any constraints. And the weather has calmed down again.

The naughty thing about floods at Lake Maggiore is not the water – it is what swimms in the water. The quay wall, next to the TSS water sports center, is very attractive to trees, branches, and other debris. Strong rain up in the mountains means a lot of wreckage down in the lake. Right in front of TSS...

This album documents the development of the September floods. The damage is not so bad as in April, but "woodpeckering" goes on and on, as you can see for yourself. Thank you very much to Peter for his unfatiguing support cleaning the lake. All in all, it was a tough full time job for six men. But now, all facilities are back in business.

Pictures of the Center...

Here are several additional pictures taken at the wassersports center of TOMASO SAIL & SURF. Don't worry about the excavator: there is no construction area near TSS. And the excavator is already gone. It was a short stop of the excavator at the lake front. He came very close to the surfboards... – but no boards were injured.

Life is a Beach – in August...

August always means "prime time" at Lake Maggiore and of course to TOMASO SAIL & SURF. As you can see in this album: beach and lake, booth are very busy during these weeks. And there are always some additional events taking place, e.g. the 2008 edition of the Traversata dell Lago a Nuoto, the "swimming step over the sea". And where was the finish line? Right in front of the housedoor of TSS...

London Calling...

Alexander Helbig and Carla Gregory – TSS partners for many years and co-developers of the TOMCAT catamaran – invited Thomas Chudoba and his family to London during their vacation at Lake Maggiore in summer 2007. Between sailing trips to the Caribbean on a Beneteau 36 and their regular trips near Southhampton, the professional skippers had some spare time to organise this visitation.

As a little "thank you" by Thomas Chudoba and his family, we set up this album with pictures of those fabulous days in swinging London.

BOOT 2008: A Visit to Düsseldorf...

Same procedure as last year... Again in 2008, Thomas Chudoba managed to cross the Alps like Hannibal (the other way round, with a little help by Ryan Air), to visit a stormy and rainy Düsseldorf and the BOOT trade fair. As in 2007, it was a celebrity event: Thomas Chudoba meets... – Bobby Schenk! The picture to the right shows Thomas Chudoba with the famous circumnavigator and author.

Also for water sports operation manager Ali Didi of Villa Shipping & Trading Company Pvt Ltd. in Malé, a former employee of TOMASO SAIL & SURF on the Maledives, Düsseldorf was worth a very long flight. Our little album documents Thomas Chudoba's pathfinding at the BOOT 2008 trade fair.

A Visit to Lago d'Iseo from Monte Carlo...

Captain Alex – a TSS base leader for many years and a nephew to Thomas Chudoba, now a skipper to a Magnum 80 with more than 3.500 kW in Monte Carlo – stopped over at Lago d'Iseo with his "boatshand" Cleo. As a co-designer and co-developer of the TOMCAT 16, he wanted to see the new TOMCAT "garage" in Palazzolo for himself. On that occasion, he also visited the famous Riva shipyards in Sarnico. As you can see, the weather conditions were "capable of development"...

Motorboats@TSS...

In this photo album, motorboats and related offers at TSS are standing in the focus (click: pricelist on motorboat charter). As often as possible, TSS is doing «banana tours» – on those days, you will find additional signboards at the Lido. There are more additional offers on a nonregular basis: motorboat excursions, e.g. with a 40-HP-outboard motor to Carmine or to the Cannero Islands and to Luinio.

You are looking for something stronger...? Okay, with a motorboat driving license: a Day Cruiser Solcio with a 120 HP Volvo inbord motor, for a maximum of 6 to 7 persons. Charter per day is 200,- € plus petrol.

The Wedding of Lory and Federico...

It happened somehow during the Catamaran-Instructor-Seminar at TSS in 2003... Former TSS employee Lory and TSS TOMCAT patron Federico found themselves. In late July they also found the way to the register office in Locarno... The official wedding party was launched, of course, between two hulls on a TOMCAT catamaran in Cannobio at the Lido Parc.

Courses and classes...

We are receiving a lot of mails, asking how we do sailing and windsurfing classes, how we do operate our courses. Apperently, there are some traumatic memories linked to the first steps in water sports... To keep this point clear: nobody will be thrown into the water if something goes wrong. And we do not exercise any sort of torture. Tortured customers do come back rarely...

With TSS, shared fun with water sports stands in the focus. Those who start relaxed and laid-back, make the most out of it. These photos of some recent catamaran and windsurfing classes on Lake Maggiore will give you an impression of our «schooldays». Price List for Pilates & Co.

We still owe you the price list for Pilates and Yoga classes with Sabrina.

TSS is offering Yoga and relaxation lessons from 9.oo a.m. to 1o.oo am and Pilates training from 1o.oo a.m. to 11.oo a.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Four lessons per person cost 30,- €, a single lesson per person 10,- €. In addition, individual personal training lessons are available for 40,- € per hour.

«Cigar Night» in Brissago (CH)...

In 2005 TOMASO SAIL & SURF reported about a party just across the Swiss border. Thomas was invited to keep a watching eye on the Miss Switzerland competition in Locarno. That night ended in a huge party at the Centro Dannemann in Brissago, as far as he can remember...

This story has side effects in 2007: almost every Wednesday evening Thomas Chudoba is at the piano for aperitifs, appetisers and cigars, courtesy of Dannemann. Cigar friends are invited to the location Grotto by the Lake for a «Cigar Night», where among other specials handmade cigars are demonstrated by female Brasilian hands.

In this little scrapbook we have collected some impressions from our water sports center at the Lido in Cannobio for you – impressions from the first third of this season.

Those who know Lake Maggiore and the location will see that the lake has more than enough water – ...and will join us as soon as possible. New at TOMASO SAIL & SURF: Pilates plus Two

TSS has been boosted...! Since 23.6., Sabrina and Ringo are strengthening the team of TSS. Until 9.9., they will work as surf instructors at the Lido in Cannobio. Welcome on board!

In addition, Sabrina is a fully-fledged Pilates coach. She will hold Pilates and Yoga classes every morning closed to TSS's water sports center at the Lido. To join one of her classes, just come to our center and enter your name on our lists! And just as easy, you will become fit for the day – a day at TOMASO SAIL & SURF!

The tub is filled up...

Just in case anybody should be afraid of an empty Lake Maggiore... – nothing else is as unlikely... You can say: the tub is filled up. And there is enough wood for the grill... But the wood is very wet. Wood, even trees are passing by. Take care!

Because of very strong rain falls up in the mountains and some dirty and foul weather with large hailstones in the Swiss part of Lake Maggiore, there is more than enough water for a long season. See for yourself...

Family affairs: Confirmation for Shari...

What is missing after Father's and Mother's day to complete the list of family days? In Roman Catholic Italy the answer is: Confirmation Sunday.

For Shari the time was right: it was time for the Catholic Confirmation. In this little photo album Thomas has collected some impressions of this very special Sunday of Confermazione.

A Cruise at Mother's Day...

Of course, Father's Day is an important day in early summer for Thomas Chudoba and TSS; just have a look on our report about the «Gents' Tour 2007»... But at least as important is Mother's Day, traditionally the second Sunday in May.

In 2007, Thomas Chudoba had a special gift for Rosa – an his family: a cruise at Mother's Day. Aboard the 292 meters long Costa Atlantica (see www.costa.it) they cruised for five days through the Mediterranian Sea: starting in Savona, to Ajaccio/Corsica, to Tunis and Malta, and via Napels back to Savona.

Kite Surfing...? In Principle: yes, but...

We are receiving more and more questions about kite surfing: does TSS offer courses in kite surfing, which kite boards does TSS rent, is Cannobio a good spot for kite surfing etc.

Well, the answer is always the same: kite surfing is possible on Lake Maggiore at Cannobio – for the same reasons as Cannobio is a great spot for sailing and windsurfing: because of the constant, reliable wind conditions. But: TOMASO SAIL & SURF does not offer any kite surfing courses and does not rent any kite surfing boards or riggs. There is not enough free space on the shore, therefore it is to risky to hold kite surfing classesa at the Lido. The public sunbathe area is located next to TSS, on the other side there is the concret wall of a harbour. You can imagine what happens, if a kite surfing student misses the relatively small take-off and landing zone at TSS. We beg your pardon for this practice.

On the lake, there is enough room for kite surfing and those who know how to kite will get his money worth, as prooved by this video by «72gonzo». While we're at it: Thank you very much to «72gonzo» and friends!

A Gents' Tour on Father's Day...

Of course, Father's Day has a special meaning at TOMASO SAIL & SURF. The very long Father's Day weekend gave them the chance to schedule a large programme and to work on that list, slowly, step by step... And here comes the sensational news: they managed to do some sailing, too!

Island-Hopping...

Before the summer season at the Lake Maggiore becomes to busy and requires a 24-hours-presence, Thomas Chudoba did some island hopping in the Indean Ocean for TOMASO SAIL & SURF. He shot a bunch of photos on the Maldives and on Sri Lanka. We compiled two little albums for you, just click on one of the following pictures.

The photos from Sri Lanka will allow you a look behind the scenes of sail production. You can find these sails on all TOMCATs. And you can join Thomas Chudoba on a trip with a proa, a traditional ceylon multihull vessel.

Cannobio.NET and ProCannobio.IT, Cannobio's official web pages for tourism, are so humble and retentive concerning their activities that we almost missed Cannobio's new webcams...

We included one of the camera views on our "Lake Maggiore - now!" page. Every ten minutes a refreshed file is "broadcasted" by Cannobio.NET; in the upper right you find time and date. Of course, you can link yourself directly to the web cam views; a click on the next two images and you will follow the link.

Cast off...!

The winter break at the Lido in Cannobio is over: this Easter weekend, TOMASO SAIL & SURF officially starts into summer season 2007!!! Here we go...!!!

We are expecting blue skies, perfect wind conditions and temperatures arround 25° C resp. 77° F in the shade... – but who is looking for shade? Your direct line to TSS: +39.333.7000291 for all open questions. If you cannot remember where this lake was situated... Or if you wish to make a reservation for your TOMCAT or your LORCH surfboard. Just to help you to remember, we have prepared these two pictures of Cannobio at Lake Maggiore and its harbour from above. Your destination for Easter 2007 is where the red arrow ist pointing at. But don't expect a large red arrow while approaching Cannobio...

Lorch in the snow...

As promised: the test waspostponed, but not abandoned... Under very sunny and warm conditions, TOMASO SAIL & SURF made up for the final test runs of Lorch's brand new snowboards and skis. In spite of the warm temperatures, the snow on Monte Campione was still fine, especially for snowboarding. And of course, Lorch stood the test – although everybody stepped on the Lorch products, jumped around on the Lorch products, slided on and on up and down the ski runs with the Lorch products...

Very soon, business will move back to Cannobio at Lake Maggiore. There you can inspect Lorch's snowboards and skis. And you can buy them at very special bargain prices. In addition, there will be a special discount for registered customers...!

Holidays on Ice...

...or better: Chudobas on Ice. Thomas Chudoba seized the occasion of some free winter days to take his family out for a skating day in Lovere. Despite, pardon..., due to the assistance by her father, Shari is making good progress in skating. Ice is becoming solid ground for her.

The scheduled test of the brand new snowboards and skis by Lorch on Monte Campione had to be cancelled: rain. Beyond 1300 meters, the rain became snow, so the test is postponed, but not abandoned.

Stop-Over at Lorch

On the way back from the BOOT trade fair in Düsseldorf to Italy, a stop over at the Lake of Constance at Lorch's in Constance was a must... In 2006, Lorch moved to to Constance's commercial area, to a premises twice the size of the old site.

At TOMASO SAIL & SURF, all of Lorch's winter sport articels are available now at sporty rock-bottom prices: a special offer according to the slogan «winter is not only waiting for the sailing and windsurfing summer»... Very soon testing reports of Lorch's skis and snowboards will be a part of the news section – including exact prices. If you don't want to wait, just send an e-mail to Thomas Chudoba. For TSS customers and those on our «housefriend» list, there will be an extra bonus. It's worth asking... Why pay more?

From Constance, Thomas Chudoba went to Lenzerheide in Switzerland. Svenja Chudoba and friends immediately jumped at the new ski and snowboard products by Lorch and started testing...

BOOT 2007, Part 4

Let's be honest... In Düsseldorf, the strongest attraction does not origin from most rational, reachable or realistic boats. There are other ships which define the BOOT trade fair... Sometimes you just want to walk from booth to booth and see yourself in the mirrorlike hulls. Sometimes you just want to persuade yourself that there is a realistic background while inspecting this and that particular detail. Even if you avoid the hall with the ultra large cruisers, it is very easy to cross the 500.000 € line... No, 500.000 € were not the personal limit for shopping...

But the BOOT trade fair in Düsseldorf presents also one or two solutions to problems you have not thought about so far and there are several booths with new business ideas and concepts.

BOOT trade fair in Düsseldorf has always been one of the major occasions for federations, associations and umbrella organisations to present themselves to the public and to communicate with their members. And of course, BOOT trade fair is a good opportunity for TOMASO SAIL & SURF and Thomas Chudoba to do some association work.

The following pictures show Thomas Chudoba at the Verband der Deutschen Sportbootschulen (VDS) (Association of German Pleasure Craft Schools) together with Katja Kleine Jäger, assistent to the executive board of VDS. Main topic was the redesigned basic certificate for windsurfing, which is a part of the concept «The perfect entrance to water sports – VDS and DSV partners on water». Additional information (in German) about the new certificates is provided by the latest brochure of VDS.

Apropos DSV: Thomas Chudoba also attended the booth of Deutscher Segler-Verband (Association of German Sailors). These photos show him during consultations with representatives of DSV about the boat classes of DSV and their olympic status.

BOOT 2007, Part 2

No BOOT trade fair in Düsseldorf is complete without a stop over at the booth of The Herm. Sprenger GmbH and their hooks, screws, tiller extensions, blocks, nuts... TSS is the general agent for Sprenger in Italy, which causes an intense business relationship between TSS and Sprenger. It makes industrial relations very personal, yet almost private. Moreover, there is not a single TOMCAT without boat equipment by Sprenger. By the way: thank you very much for your hospitality in Düsseldorf!

BOOT 2007, Part 1

20.-28.1.2007 was the time for BOOT 2007, Europe's largest boat fair, in Düsseldorf (Germany). Exhibitors and VIPs from all over the (water sports) world came to the fair grounds closed to the River Rhine. So did Bjørn Dunkerbeck, with 35 world titles the most successfull windsurfer. The show stage of VDWS hosted a meeting of Thomas Chudoba with his big idol.

A little malfunction...

Does «Kyrill» mean something to you...? Yes, of course - some people have larger problems due to the European-wide storm earlier this week. Nevertheless, TSS's webmaster has little problem since last Wednesday: the telefon line is malfunctioning. And so is the link to the internet. A tree is the cause of the trouble. It tipped over into a nearby car, down the road, just arround the corner... Well, between the tree and the car there once was a switching unit of German Telekom...

The consequences: no telephone line, no internet access... It will take a little longer for all email messages to and from TOMASO SAIL & SURF, we beg your pardon. We have to use a mobile phone... German Telekom will not solve the problem before Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Sailing Design 2007

Needless to say that even during the winter months the team of TOMASO SAIL & SURF is very busy. Thomas Chudoba has just finished his work on the brand new TOMCAT sailing designs for the summer season 2007. If you order your new TOMCAT in 2007, you have your choice of sailing fashion... Ski Testing in Lenzerheide

Needless to say..., Thomas Chudoba had to do it: testing Lorch's brand new skis and snowboards under "family conditions". Lenzerheide in Graubünden (CH) was the playground, visiting St. Moritz and the TOMCAT-Center Engadinsegeln at Lake Silvaplana. The results of the test? Have a look in their eyes... Nothing to add.

Just a short note for all those suffering under climate changes... This strange white stuff on the ground used to be called «snow». Some decades ago, it emerged even below 1.500 metres for a couple of days, yet it has been seen far away from the Swiss Alps up in the North...

New Year's Eve 2006

...at Lake d'Iseo. The old year ended in a very foggy way, as you can see on these pictures taken in Bossico. Despite the sunny conditions, there was a solid layer of high fog over Lake d'Iseo with Montisola, the biggest lake island of Europe.

Due to the fact that Lake d'Iseo was no longer frozen - the lake was de-iced for winter sailing... - Thomas, Rosa, Shari and Thomas jr. had to move to a skating rink closed to the marina in Lovere with their traditional New Year's Eve skating. Happy New Year...!

End-of-season 2006

With these autumnal picture TSS is closing down the water sports beach after a long season of 2006. Until late November there were a lot of sunny days but now the hollows of the knees do feel some fresh winds... TOMASO SAIL & SURF will start soon with Lorch's snowboards and skis while the water sports center in Cannobio is prepared for snow and ice during the winter months.

Our water sports center in Cannobio will be reopened for the Easter week 2007 - with one or two surprises and some innovations for you. TSS-News will keep you uptodate.

...at the Lake of Constance was again worth travelling there. Of course, splashed out and presented the complete range of goods on the action stage. In this year, the assortment includes surfing harnesses - and skis!
