Long Easter Weekend with TSS

At TOMASO SAIL & SURF the 2015 season begins with a very long Easter Weekend. It starts on Thursday, 2 April, and will end Easter Tuesday, 7 April. The TSS-fleet will be prepared on time.

As sailing and windsurfing depend on the weather conditions, bad weather might cut down opening hours. But of course, we all do hope for the best. Enjoy your Easter vacation 2015 at the Lake Maggiore with TOMASO SAIL & SURF!

Starting into 2015 with Good News

At TOMASO SAIL & SURF, 2015 starts with good news: prices will remain constant. The price lists of 2014 are also the price lists of 2015!

Okay, first things first... Lake Maggiore is no longer (partly) frozen. Nevertheless, the water is, well, refreshingly cold. Night temperatures below zero in February do not increase the water temperatures signifcantly... But don't panic, that is normal during the first months of the year in the North of Italy.

You can have a look at the current state of the lake e.g. with the impressive webcam of the Cimetta Skiclub Cardada (above Locarno).




Albums about beach life at TSS will be presented with the start of the new season. Meanwhile Thomas Chudoba's Facebook pages on TSS will keep you up to date. Special news – e.g. about unchanged prices at TSS for the season of 2015 – will be published directly on this news page, of course.

Preseason 2013

Well, admittedly no one remembers a wetter and colder Easter weekend than the weekend of 2013... All Easter bunnies had to wear extra winter clothes...

But since then, a lot has been done. TOMASO SAIL & SURF has transported a lot of equipment to the Lido and back to the warehouse and back to the Lido, just because there was to much water in the big pool. And there still more than enough water in Lake Maggiore... Meanwhile, our brand new Marinello Eden 20 is moored in Cannobio harbour, ready for charter together with the other boats of TOMASO SAIL & SURF's Marinello fleet.

Jump Start for Windsurfing

If Lake Maggiore does not freeze, you can do windsurfing... Or what else to do during a sunny January weekend? Let's set up a new jump start record for windsurfing with TOMASO SAIL & SURF... And January, 5 is a very early beginning of preseason...

Our foto album documents also that you will need some additional preparations before riding and ruling the waves. Beach life in January is a little more difficult than later in the year...

More Power to TSS Power Boats

The idea was born at the Interboot trade fair in Friedrichshafen at the Lake of Constance im September 2012 and became reality at the Salone della Nautica Genova. Die Motorboot-Flotte TOMASO SAIL & SURF's motor boat fleet will be enlarged by another product of Marinello's shipyard: by an Eden 20 with an tiny 150 H.P. Yamaha engine. No, not with all the engines of this photo... One single 150 h.p. outboard motor...

Nautica Bego S.r.l. in Verbania had received the Marinello 20 directly from the Genova trade fair and prepared her according to Thomas Chudoba's plans for the new season –with nice gadgets like an onboard refrigerator. Our little album documents the latest addition to the familiy at TSS Power Boat Rental. Very early in the 2013 season the Eden 20 will be ready for chartering. As soon as the new prices are calculated, we will publish them on this page.

Late Summer at the Lago

After an undeserved vacation of the webmaster and a little break in the progression of updates of our TSS news, this is the moment for our very special and brand new album. We are documenting the last two month of TSS action, until the early days of late summer. And we are establishing an all-time record for you: 240 photos in a single album...! Do you find yourself in one of the pictures?

Please do not become irritated by the picture dates... Up to the fourth album page the dates of the shots are pure nonsense. Thomas Chudoba's formerly waterproof camera had to be air-dried again. And again there was some power failure. Therefore the camera decided to reset itself to factory values... So we ended up with dates back in "2009" and "January" and so on... The shots were taking in early August 2012... Anyway: have fun!

Rush Hour(s) at the Center

There are a lot of rush hours at the TOMASO SAIL & SURF watersports center – and this is great...! Those who have been on the water at TSS in mid July, those who have learned how to use a surfboard or a TOMCAT and those who have received their Eurosail certificates... – you will meet them in our latest album.

The TSS watersports center should be your first place to visit in Cannobio, right after your arrival. Make your appointments for courses and charter with the colleagues at the center. Especially during peak season, this is te easiest way. And it will give you the opportunity to get the most out of your precious vacation. Have fun with TOMASO SAIL & SURF!

Beach Impressions...

Here we go again – with our latest album and more impressions from the Lido beach in Cannobio. All departments of TSS are really busy, including the course programms for catamarans and windsurfing. Just to avoid misimpressions... – there is a minimum age of eight years for children in windsurfing courses; of course, they have to be swimmers. On catamarans, there is a minimum age of 14 years. Family members under 14 years can become a foresheet man (half the price of regular course) and learn how to handle the foresail (jib). Chartering of license-free motor boats, e.g. the Fun 500 and the Marinello 16, has a minimum age of 21 years.

Beach Life at the Lido...

Our new album gives you an inside view of the latest beach life at TOMASO SAIL & SURF. Our brand new Marinello motor boats really popular and in daily use. Therefore, one plea concerning your motor boat excursion with TSS: please come to the TSS water sports center at the Lido in Cannobio as soon as poosible and make your appointment with TSS with the colleagues at beach. This will also help a lot with your participation in catamaran and sailing courses resp. your rental and charter of all kind of sailing boats.

Busy at the Lido...

And it is still almost rush hour at the Lido with TOMASO SAIL & SURF. Both the Marinellos are very popular. They are casting southwards most of the time, because of missing winds and waves in that part of Lake Maggiore... Our latest album shows our brand new, busy Marinello motor boats. Please have a closer look: one of the very rare opportunities where Rosa C. herself is steering one of TSS' motor boats!

Congratulations to Andreas B. on becoming a new TOMCAT owner – and welcome to this worldwide family! The red-grey TOMCAT Shari now is his own.

Of course, everyone in Cannobio had at least one eye on a TV set during the matches of the UEFA EURO 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. Maybe we should not use the abbreviation EURO2012... – somebody might think that one more party wants to benefit from some sort of «euro bailout fund»... TSS has almost everything about water sports, but there is definately no kind of financial emergency chute... Especially no chute worth some billions of Euros...

Oh yes... The fotos in this album were all taken in 2012... Thomas Chudoba's camera still believes in 2011 after some underwaterhightechhandicraftwork with the battery...

Center Action...

A lot of action and activities at TOMASO SAIL & SURF's water sports center at the Lido in Cannobio. Although water temperatures still will help you more to chill your Prosecco, rather than taking a quick swim, there is really intense activity at TSS.

Our latest album proves that there is pretty much motorboating, pedalboating, and catsailing. Also the optimists set their sails. And at least after the two days with the upper school Sernftal the windsurfing department is fully in large scale operation. What...? Never heard of Sernf? Well, with TSS you can always learn something new...

Sernf is not just an important river in Switzerland when solving crossword puzzles and the fifth German word ending on "-nf" (behind fünf, Genf, Hanf and Senf...), but also eponym to the main valley of the canton of Glarus. Never heard of Glarus before...? As mentioned earlier, with TSS you can always learn something new...

Happy Pentecost from TSS!

Happy Pentecost from all members of the TOMASO SAIL & SURF team! And of course: Have a lot of fun during the this very loooooong Pentecost weekend at our watersports center at the Lido in Cannobio!

To all native speakers... It always sounds a bit strange, this Happy Pentecost – but Happy Whitsuntide or Merry Whitsun does not sound much more... familiar. Or English. Or both. So, what do you wish to your family and friends during the Pentecost weekend? Please, send us a short email – which phrase should be used?

Not matter if Pentecost, Whitsuntide or what else, there is a huge bunch of things you can do on Lake Maggiore. Have a look on our latest album with pictures taken in last two weeks to find some suggestions. Currently, our motor boats are very busy, especially our brand new Marinellos. But also courses for windsurfing and catamaran sailing are held, most of them during the weekends. Keep in mind that suits are included for all courses, so the very refreshing water temperatures do not cause any problems. And, of course, with every sunny day, the lake becomes warmer and warmer. Come along and see for yourself!

At the moment the main focus of TOMASO SAIL & SURF is on sailing and motor boats. You can almost call it a naval exercise; the TSS fleet is already in action. Yes, also the brand new Marinellos are beating about near Cannobio. Our latest album shows the first pictures of our new motor boats.

Optimistically into the new saison with Optimists!

Twice as optimistically, TSS started into the new season last weekend at the Lido in Cannobio. Optimistically, of course, because starting into the new season is almost like a Happy New Year... And, of course, because the Lido was crowded with Optimists and their typical sail geometry. 7 bft. caused some fresh air on the lake, but that was no reason at all for the Optimists to refrain from putting to sea.

Starting with new service catalogues into the new season

May gives birth to the fruits of April's wet labor..., but TSS does not wait until May. As of April 1, TSS introduces new service catalogues with new groupings of all our products. All services are illustrated with up-to-date photos, including the brand new offers. All lists are multilingual, including English – of course.

There are four lists: «Sailing Sports Training» including windsurfing and catsailing courses, «Sailing Sports Rental» with windsurfing and sailing equipment, «Rental and Charter» of motorboats and «Funsports Rental» with canoes, pedal boats, rowing boats etc. You will find these lists at the TSS water sports center at the Lido in Cannobio and they are replacing all earlier lists on our website at the menue «TSS-WATER SPORTS CENTERS».

Heavy Weight Catamaran Sailing Test off the coast of Monaco

Right before the start of the season at Lake Maggiore – remember: we will be starting at the weekend from March, 30 to April, 1 – Thomas Chudoba and his nephew and crew member Alexander Nist (skipper of a Magnum 80 with Monte Carlo as port of registry) underwent a «Heavy Weight Catamaran Sailing Test» with Leopard Cabin Cruisern. The Mediterranean Sea near Nice, Monaco and Menton was the ideal playground, not only concerning wind and weather. With reef sailing because of an onshore stiff breeze at 6-7 bft and some aggressive waves, there was a lot of fine action...

Those of you who have been to the Côte d'Azur before know that the hours after going ashore were everything except boring... In our latest album, we tried to summerize the Monegasque impressions. Have a good time!

Ready for the season of 2012

TOMASO SAIL & SURF is ready for takeoff into the season of 2012. Wind and waves are also prepared... Already in late February, Lake Maggiore is ready for the new season: sun shine all day long, blue skys... – okay, the water is still a little fresh... Wind conditions are also at top level. Some early sailors and surfers have already tested Lake Maggiore... – as you can see in our latest visual report.

TSS has prepared a couple of surprises for the new season. You will find reports about the new offers here in our news section very soon, starting with new service catalogues at the end of March. Note in your date book: TSS starts March, 30 at the Lido water sports center – be a part of it!

Carnival in Cannobio

If you thought that it is all over after Ash Wednesday, you reckoned without the Italian moments in life... During the last week of February the carnival revellers took over Cannobio. Thomas Chudoba and his family were there for TSS – documenting street carnival, taking a lot of pictures for our latest album.

Apropos... Not so far away, at the end of March, TSS will declare open the season of 2012 at the Lido in Cannobio. Keep in mind: Easter comes very early this year... Why not spend a couple of days at the Lake Maggiore...? TSS will be prepared!

Snow on the Maldives...?

Now that Jack Frost has finally frozen Europe, you just have the choice between two-digit minus degrees or metres high snow layers. Welcome to Bella Italia... For the first time after three decades there is snow in the Colosseum in Rome... And now winter madness has reached the Maldives! There are some Maldivian islands with less than 30° C! Plus – of course... Yes, by night. Right off the bat, Maldivian task groups deployed to grit prophylactically the beaches. Just in case... The resulting sandy look&feel can be regarded in our latest little album.

When you are jolly well fed up with «Operation Frost Boil», when you think of bright beaches and warm water while running arround with grit sand and road salt or when you just wish to sail (again...) from sandbank to sandbank, we do have a recommendation: Maafushi Varu in the Ari Atoll. Only authentic with the TOMCAT under the palm tree...

Just another windy day...

During the last days of 2011 Lago Maggiore presented itsself as the usual watersports area: blue sky and a little wind... Well, Christmas was a very windy afair this year. With squalls up to 160 km/h. In other words: 12 Bft.! According to the old scale of 1935 even 14 Bft.! The little hut in some of the pictures was planned to be the base camp for doctors and first aid. Maybe they will have to rethink that idea...

Summer of 2011 with TSS (Part 2)...

Main season with TSS is a very intensive time of the year – a period of time, when you meet a lot of people, expierence so many new things... There are so many activities, tours, courses etc., you really need a foto album like this one to sort your memories and impressions. E.g. the impressions of so much wood in front of the cottage (you know what I mean...), TOMCAT ceremonies, extremely rainy practice sessions of the 29er European Championships at Brissago and so many brand new licensed catamaran sailors and windsurfers...!

In the matter of Ferrari...

WebMasters take vacations, too... Of course with TSS in Cannobio! Therefore there was a little break in updating the news. Here we go again...!

What is more exclusive than a Ferrari sports car...? Well, a TOMCAT! Actually there are more Ferraris sports cars than TOMCAT catamarans in this world – which is against all expectations because a TOMCAT is by far much more cheaper in purchase and sustention than a Ferrari... Well, somehow Ferrari builds much more units of each model than TOMCAT catamarans (all in all about 6.452 per year). But TSS does not belong to FIAT...

Moreover, a number of Ferrari owners met with their little red cars right in front of the house door of TSS at the parking ground near the water sports center. See how it looks like when another one of Thomas Chudoba's dreams becomes true (at least for a day or two...) in our latest album. Do you have any idea about the maximum roof load of a Ferrari...? Just for TOMCAT transportation... Ferraris are probably to much lowered down for a trailer coupling...

Summer of 2011 with TSS...

With a water temperature of 23° C, there is little doubt left: summer is here, at Lake Maggiore in the North of Italy! Accordingly, TSS has become a real hot spot with a lot of action – for both: those with surfboards and those with TOMCAT catamarans. In our latest photo album we documented some of the action – plus a line of fresh «diploma holders».

And there is a brand new TOMCAT in a very special design... We are still racking our brains for an appropriate designation – can you help us out? What about «junkyard design»? Or according to Kevin Costner: «Waterworld» design?

Into the summer of 2011 with TSS...

Right before the "official" start of summer vacations in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, the summer season of 2011 at TOMASO SAIL & SURF is already in full swing. The last updates of the rolling stock, sorry..., swimming stock were finished between Easter and Pentecost, Thomas Chudoba and his team were really busy!

Especially the motor boat fleet was overhauled – our service for you! But you will also notice some updates of our TOMCATs and surfboards – updates and new material. The sails were overhauled during winter time, too. And they now welcomed some new colleagues... Apropos new... The season started right away with a new TOMCAT owner. Oliver S. from G. in B. always acted resp. sailed on conviction, now he belongs to the selected circle of TOMCAT owners, who completed successfully an individual course in Thomas Chudoba's "how-to-assemble-and-disassemble-my-TOMCAT-school". Fair winds, following seas and always a handswidth of grappa under your keels!

Starting into the Season of 2011...

A look on the calendar will tell you that it is time for the new season at Lake Maggiore. But also the sun shows its face more often and longer, temperatures are rising day by day. Cannobio is waking up again. Right on time for the long Easter weekend, Thomas Chudoba and his team will officially declare (re)open the TSS watersports centre at the Lido! 21.4. will be day one of the new season!

No increase in prices for sailing and windsurfing, for rental of TOMCATs, LORCH boards and pedalos, for beginner and advanced learner courses! See for yourself!

...or: how to make a TOMCAT sail?

Thomas Chudoba's primary destination in Sri Lanka was Aqua Dynamics Ltd. an der Westküste, more precisely: in Negombo (approx. 40 km North of Colombo). Head of the Dynamics is the half German, half Southafrican Frank Ulmer. Of course, his company does not work exclusively for TOMASO SAIL & SURF, they are also suppliers for German luxury car brands, e.g. with elements for convertibles and tool bags.

In this final album of Thomas' excusion to the Maldives we have a look behind the scenes of Aqua Dynamics Ltd. and we show how TOMCAT sails and trampolines are manufactured for TOMASO SAIL & SURF.

During his stay on the Maldives, Thomas Chudoba also made a visit to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka – named Ceylon until 1972. In this album we collected his impressions of the country and its people.

Of course, the boss of TOMASO SAIL & SURF did not fly to Sri Lanka for touristy reasons. He visited Aqua Dynamics Ltd. at the West coast of Sri Lanka. More about that very soon.

Maldivian Impressions – Part 1...

Lately, Thomas Chudoba and his camera have been very busy – they produced a lot of Maldivian impressions! In this album you will find the first 150 photos of Maafushivaru, nearby islands, sand banks, likewise facilities – and some pictures of a shopping spree to the Maldivian capital Male´. A View from Down Under...

The Maldives are a top destination for sailing and windsurfing, but you can also have great time down under the sea. You can spend your vacation with snorkeling and scuba-diving – meeting some special locals. For our latest album Thomas Chudoba grabbed fins, mask, and snorkel and took some pictures down under the sea.

Okay, that is no serious diving, it is holding one's breath and swimming around just under the water surface. For real diving you need a scuba set, some cylinders of Nitrox, a stabiliser jacket... – and an experienced diving school, e.g. the diving centre on Maafushivaru.

Some Pictures of Maafushivaru...

Sooner or later you will have to learn that the Maldives are not just around the corner... They are small pieces of sand somewhere out there in the Indian Ocean. And that's what still makes file transfer a little tricky. Anyhow, it works! Not so long ago, a simple telephone on these islands was regarded as displeasing or offensive – no news, no shoes..., holidays without the rest of the universe and such slogans. Well, what remains is the task to configure you notebook to the resort's WLAN.

Operation Maafushivaru II

Operation Maafushivaru is about to take its next step. Thomas Chudoba himself will be on Maafushivaru from mid January until end of February 2011! The brand new fun package with aplenty of TOMCAT and Lorch windsurfing action under the sun of the Indian Ocean has just (literally...) taken off!

More information – also about travel arrangements and booking from Germany – will be available on this page as soon as the big boss returns. And of course, he will bring tons of cool photos taken under the hot sun to our rainy winter days!

Wintertime in Cannobio...

It is definitely wintertime at the banks of Lake Maggiore... And it is time for that cold white stuff in Cannobio, not a lot compared to typical winter sports resorts like the Ruhr area in Germany...

Lake Maggiore has not yet frozen up, but it's cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey. No, a monkey... a brass monkey... – no, Thomas is alright... What are you thinking of...? Please have a look at our impressions of wintertime in Cannobio. Yes, a fistful of salt and some sand would be nice, to avoid accidents with black ice...

End of Season 2010 at TSS...

It is becoming more and more chilly on the banks of Lake Maggiore... Although that strange white powder still cannot be found at the Lido and although the temperature is around toasty 2 to 5 degrees celcius: the season 2010 at TOMASO SAIL & SURF is officially closed. And so is the water sports centre in Cannobio for the rest of the year.

Thomas Chudoba and his team have bundled up, packed together their belongings and swept the beach... – even though Lake Maggiore did its very best to persuade them to one or two additional trips on the water. You will notice while having a look on our end of season album: it has been hotter at the Lido... But do not shut down your computer to early, we will be back one more time in 2010...

Congratulations...!

TOMASO SAIL & SURF congratulates his first customer, who managed to become a Formula-One-World-Champion: Sebastian Vettel! Congratulations!

A couple of days ago, back in 2007, emidiately before he his first race in Formula One... In those days, it was still possible for Sebastian Vettel to spend a short vacation incognito and unobserved in Cannobio. And what did a future world champion do in Cannobio? He came over to the TSS water sports centre at the Lido and he tested...

Summer at Lake Maggiore - Part 2...

Yes, there are one or two clouds in the sky and the water temperature has been higher some weeks ago, but...: in Cannobio its still summer! If you cannot stand the rain any longer, why not spend some sunny days in Cannobio...? TOMASO SAIL & SURF is still there for you. Until end of October the complete TSS programme will be available.

Summer at Lake Maggiore...

July and August are the top months at the Lake Maggiore and so it is for TOMASO SAIL & SURF. But that does not mean that the TSS team has less time for you. Of course, all TSS courses are carried out with the same intensity and with same commitment. Of course, all charter and rental bookings are handled with the same professionalism.

We have prepared an album with photos taken in the last couple of weeks for you. Have a look at the 300 plus pictures. And if you have been at the Lido at TSS in June or July, maybe you will find yourself on one of the photos....

A Growing TOMASO SAIL & SURF...

The season of 2010 begins with a little surprise... – TOMASO SAIL & SURF has grown. Starting in mid May, you can charter a Joda 5700 at TSS!

The motor boat built by Joda has a stage for swimmers in the rear and a cabin for two persons. The maximum capacity is six persons. The engine is a Mercruiser (V6, 4,6 l, 200 PS / 147 kW).

A charter week (seven days) will cost 1.850,- € plus 500,- € deposit. The charge for two weeks is 3.500,- €, plus deposit. If the boat is not chartered on a per week basis, you can rent it on a per diem basis on-site at the TSS water sports center at the Lido in Cannobio:

1 day	350,- €	plus 200,- &euro deposit
2 days	650,- €	plus 300,- &euro deposit
3 days	930,- €	plus 400,- &euro deposit
4 days	1.200,- €	plus 500,- &euro deposit

Additional offers on demand. A detailled boat plan will be online in an couple of days. Plus brand new photos...!
